Canada Summer Jobs 2020: COVID-19 edition
This summer, 155 young residents of Alfred–Pellan will benefit from the program
July 14, 2020 – Laval, Quebec – Canada Summer Jobs is a federal program that helps create jobs for young people in not-for-profit organizations and small businesses. Although the 2020 program was subject to temporary changes as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, young Laval residents will still be able to do their part in fighting the pandemic and helping the local economy bounce back.
Angelo Iacono, MP for Alfred–Pellan, said that the program’s 2020 edition will be one of a kind: “Everything is different this year, and that includes the Canada Summer Jobs program. It had to be redesigned to not only support our employers in this difficult time, but also help our young people find jobs. So, I was very glad to hear that 155 jobs were approved in my riding, for a total investment of $733,466. This program will meet the significant needs of our employers while providing our young residents with rewarding experiences.”
This year, Canada Summer Jobs is prioritizing employers that provide essential services in their communities in response to the pandemic. In Alfred–Pellan, 24 jobs were approved and $170,967 was invested in long-term care centres (CHSLDs). As a result, our young people will be able to support health care workers on the ground and bring a bit of joy to the most vulnerable CHSLD residents during lockdown.
In addition, 35 other jobs were approved to support emergency services provided by local organizations, such as grocery deliveries, meals on wheels and agricultural work.
Mr. Iacono encourages young Alfred–Pellan residents to apply for Canada Summer Jobs 2020 and do their part during these exceptional times.
