Federal infrastructure funding for municipalities
Laval, June 22, 2020 – The federal government is continuing to focus on the health and safety of all Canadians during the COVID-19 pandemic by taking immediate action to support Canada’s cities, help local economies bounce back and create quality jobs.
Laval’s federal MPs are announcing that the funding delivered through the federal Gas Tax Fund (GTF) will be accelerated this year to help communities as fast as possible.
This means that the City of Laval will receive all its federal infrastructure funding for 2020–2021 in one payment of $23,303,973 this June, which will help expedite infrastructure projects in Laval to improve the quality of life for local residents and help restart the economy. With this new payment included, the City of Laval has received approximately $152 million from the Government of Canada’s GTF since 2015.
Furthermore, an additional one-time supplement was given to municipalities in 2019 as part of the GTF. The City of Laval received twice its usual GTF transfer in 2019–2020, for a total of $46.2 million.
