Laval’s federal MPs thank Canadian Armed Forces members for their service

Laval, June 12, 2020 – Laval’s federal MPs would like to provide an update on the deployment of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) to Quebec’s CHSLDs (long-term care centres). Our men and women in uniform are doing an incredible job and are saving lives.

Since the end of April, the situation in several CHSLDs has stabilized. This means CAF members deployed to CHSLDs where things have improved can now lend a hand in other centres where help is critically needed. 

More than 35 CHSLDs have received assistance from CAF members, who are continually being redeployed from centres where the situation is under control to other centres in need. The current mission in Quebec has been extended until June 26, 2020.

Operation LASER’s 1,400 CAF members are still in Quebec and are currently being redeployed to the CHSLDs that need them the most.

Discussions with the Quebec government are underway to develop a medium-term plan that would remain in effect until September 15, 2020. This plan includes the active participation of the Canadian Red Cross, which will provide qualified personnel backed by federal funding.

Thanks to the work of CAF members, the situation in Quebec’s CHSLDs has significantly improved, and outbreaks in the centres are now back under control. The Government of Canada will continue to be there for our seniors and all Quebeckers.

Laval’s federal MPs would like to thank the CAF members who came to the support of CHSLDs in Laval and across Quebec. CAF members have had a monumental impact on our community, and our seniors, as well as their children and grandchildren, will be forever grateful to our men and women in uniform. Displaying valour, compassion and professionalism, they delivered assistance to our most vulnerable people when it was most needed. Thank you.
