Infrastructures that support Alfred-Pellan
Over $85 million for the Pie-IX Bridge
May 13, 2019 – Laval, Quebec – The Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Infrastructure and Communities, today announced over $345 million in funding for three road projects, including the renovation of the Pie-IX Bridge and the construction of a dedicated lane on that bridge that joins Montréal and Laval.
The MP for Alfred-Pellan, Angelo Iacono, welcomed the investment of over $85 million in two projects related to the Pie-IX Bridge: the renovation of the bridge and the creation of a dedicated lane on the bridge.
Major renovations, to which the federal government is contributing over $78 million, will replace the existing traffic deck with a new six-lane roadway, with four lanes going to Montreal and two going to Laval. The sidewalk on the west side will also be expanded, and a new multi-purpose path for cyclists and pedestrians will be built on the east side.
Over $6 million will go to building over a kilometre of dedicated lane for rapid bus transit on the Pie-Bridge to improve travel from Montréal to Laval.
During the announcement, Mr. Iacono said, “Until today, the PIE-IX Bridge has been a source of concern for my constituents. Thanks to this federal funding, we will be providing the citizens and businesses of the region with smooth and efficient travel. And by investing in infrastructure and transportation, we are building stronger and more inclusive communities.”
