More employment opportunities for the youth of Alfred-Pellan

The Government of Canada will fund 212 jobs through Canada Summer Jobs 2019

April 25, 2019 – Laval, Quebec – Standing in for the Honourable Patty Hadju Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Labour, Alfred-Pellan MP Angelo Iacono announced that the hiring season for Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) 2019 is now open until July 23, 2019. This year, there will be more than 80 000 job openings for youth across Canada, including 212 jobs for the youth of Alfred-Pellan. Over 70 employers from the riding have been approved to receive funding through CSJ 2019. Funding has increased by 167% since 2015, with Alfred-Pellan now receiving $770 000 in seasonal funding.

Through Canada Summer Jobs, the Government of Canada pursues its commitment to help youth between 15 and 30, particularly those encountering obstacles to acquiring the competencies, work experience and skills they need to integrate the labour market.

The Honourable Patty Hajdu, Minister for Employment, Workforce Development and Labour, spoke about the Program: “Canadian youth are not only the leaders of tomorrow; they are the leaders of today. That is why our government, through Canada Summer Jobs, is making sure that more Canadian youth acquire the skills and work experience that they need to succeed in our developing economy. Offering Canadian youth opportunities to acquire enriching and remunerated work experience helps give them a fair chance to succeed.”

Angelo Iacono, the MP for Alfred-Pellan, is proud of the interest that the riding has shown in Canada Summer Jobs: “Each year, more and more private and public employers, as well as non-profit organizations, participate in Canada Summer Jobs. In this way, they help create enriching and significant job opportunities for the youth in our community. This experience and these skills will allow these young people to lay the first stepping stones on their career path.”

This year, all young people between the ages of 15 and 30 who are legally eligible to work in Canada may apply, not just students. For the first time, all available jobs can be searched on jobbank.gc.ca/youth, and on the cellphone app Job Bank. Mr. Iacono encourages young people in the riding to submit their applications for this new edition of Canada Summer Jobs.
