Seniors in St. Francois will have the opportunity to participate in new activities and projects through federal grants totaling $ 32,506

March 13, 2017 - LAVAL, Quebec - Angelo Iacono, Member of Parliament for Alfred-Pellan, announced today that three organizations in his riding have received financial assistance to purchase or replace equipment. The announcement was made on behalf of the Honorable Jean-Yves Duclos, Minister of Family, Children and Social Development, as part of the New Horizons for Seniors Program (NHSP), which ensures that seniors can benefit from the quality of life in their community and also contribute to it through participation in social activities and active living.

Here are the projects:

Organization: Le Club d’âge d’or St-François-de-Sales.
Project Title: Material Replacement and Improvement.
The organization wants to replace and improve its fitness equipment for seniors.
Amount: $ 1,496
Organization: Le Cercle des Fermières de Saint-François.
Project title: Improvement of equipment.
The organization will purchase a loom to facilitate and improve weaving techniques.
Amount: $ 6,010

Organization: Fabrique Saint-Noël-Chabanel.
Project Title: Improvement of the Main Hall of the Community Center.
The organization will refurbish its floor and replace its chairs in order to pursue various activities.
Amount: $ 25,000

"The Government of Canada is committed to ensuring that Canadian seniors are able to participate in community activities that meet their needs and interests, benefit from their collective resources and experiences, and promote their social participation. Under the New Horizons for Seniors program (NHSP), we are funding projects like St. Francois so seniors can participate in community activities that are useful and active, "said Angelo Iacono.

The Government of Canada is committing approximately $ 35 million to the New Horizons for Seniors Program to fund nearly 1,850 community projects that were approved following the 2016-2017 Call for Proposals. Since 2004, the government of Canada has invested about $ 417 million for nearly 19,700 NHSP projects in hundreds of communities across Canada.

Angelo Iacono, Member of Parliament for Alfred-Pellan, recently met with the organization named "Le Cercle des Fermières de Saint-François" who will purchase a new loom through a grant received under the NHSP.
