The 2018-2019 Alfred-Pellan Youth Council met on November 18, 2018. This Council meets on an ad hoc basis to discuss issues of concern to young people and to share, through the Member of Parliament, ideas that Members of Parliament could consider in their discussions.

This first meeting focused on the environment, and the young people raised several interesting points. They want more investment in research to develop new technologies that will improve the environment. They suggested free public transit for students to help them forge new transportation habits. They would like the government to introduce incentives for the public to adopt renewable energy more widely. They think it is important to find alternatives to oil sands development and they want the carbon tax to be passed on to large businesses rather than consumers.

These issues are everybody’s business, and the young people of Alfred-Pellan want to be part of the solution.
