Support for community organizations

May 22, 2020 – Laval, Quebec – Angelo Iacono, MP for Alfred–Pellan, would like to inform Laval community organizations that the Emergency Community Support Fund (ECSF) launched on May 19, 2020. Laval charities and not‑for‑profit organizations will now be able to apply for funding to respond to the pandemic.

The Government of Canada is pleased to be working with United Way Canada, the Canadian Red Cross Society and Community Foundations of Canada to distribute the $350 million provided through the ECSF. These trusted partners have uploaded information about their eligibility criteria and application processes to their websites.

Laval community organizations will be able to apply for funding to support a broad range of activities, such as:

  • increasing volunteer-based home deliveries of groceries and prescription drugs;
  • providing transportation services, such as accompanying and transporting seniors or persons with a disability for check-ups;
  • scaling up help lines that provide information and support;
  • providing training, supplies, and other required supports to volunteers so they can continue to make their invaluable contributions to the COVID-19 response; and
  • replacing in-person and one-on-one contact and social gatherings with virtual contact through phone calls, texts, teleconferences or the Internet.

“Laval community organizations have been on the front lines since the start of the pandemic. The need for their services is greater than ever, and that is why the Government of Canada is there for them, so that they can continue being there for Laval residents.”
